Why we're a non-profit

Jon Twigge · 11 July 2026

In short

what-world-way is a free set of tests, run by a non-profit — a company limited by guarantee, no shareholders. Almost everything is free: the tests, your results, your full portrait. The only thing of our own we charge for is an optional in-depth report, in the hope of covering our costs. With almost no money to advertise, it mostly spreads the ordinary way — someone takes it, finds it useful, and sends a friend a compare link. The site reads the two results together.

what-world-way is a free set of tests. They give you a picture of yourself: the role you tend to give other people, the kind of world you feel at home in, and how you move through it.

We're a non-profit — a company limited by guarantee. No shareholders. Nobody takes a profit out of it.

We built it because most people go through life with a fuzzy picture of how they work, and a clearer one helps. Giving people that, for free, is reason enough to do it.

Almost everything is free: the tests, your results, the full picture, at every level. You never pay to see your own results. The only thing of our own we charge for is an in-depth report that draws them all together. It would be great if that covered our costs one day. We also host a few tests made by other people; where those are paid, most of the fee goes to them, not to us.

How people hear about it

We've almost no money for advertising, and probably never will have much. We might try the odd small thing — a few pounds on Instagram to see if it moves anything — but that's the scale of it. So mostly people hear about it the ordinary way: someone takes it, finds it useful, and sends a friend a compare link — the site reads the two results together. There's no reward for passing it on.

If it meant something to you, tell one person you think it would suit. Only if it did, though — a recommendation you don't mean is worth nothing to anyone, and we'd rather you said nothing. And even that's optional.

Want to help?

Some people offer to help spread the word. If you'd like to, take the tests, make up your own mind, and mention us where it feels natural — to a friend, in a group you're already part of, or on your own feed if you want to. We ask one thing: don't post anything that looks like advertising. No spam, no pretending. One honest mention is worth more than a pile of posts.

The easiest way in is to follow along and reply — say you'd like to help and I'll point you to something useful.

That's it

We're a small non-profit doing one thing, and trying to do it properly — you can see how on our science page. We might not grow fast; with no money to advertise, we may stay small. But if what-world-way shows you something true about yourself, that's the point — you don't owe us anything for it. And if one person you know would be glad to see the same, tell them. That's how it spreads.
